Tuesday daily sheep summary

Following rain over the weekend, lamb numbers at Dubbo declined 31% to 29,610 head. It was a fair quality yarding with a pretty good selection of new season lambs along with large numbers of hoggets and Merinos. Heavy weight lambs were in limited supply.

Mutton consignments lifted by 2,800 head to 10,400 head. It was a mixed quality yarding, with most selling to a cheaper trend.

• Trade weight new season 3 score lambs were 4¢ cheaper, averaging 553¢/kg cwt
• Old trade weight 3 score lambs were 9¢ dearer on 562¢/kg cwt
• Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes slipped 63¢ and averaged 312¢/kg cwt

Lamb throughput at Bendigo eased to 21,506 head following last week's big yarding. Quality remained good, although there were not as many heavy weight young lambs on offer. Prices fluctuated, with the sale opening firmly before losing momentum. Demand was keenest for light weight young lambs, with several buyers filling restocker orders.

Mutton numbers declined to 5,364 head. There was a significant price correction for heavy mutton despite the supply of sheep reducing on week-ago levels.

• Light young 2 score lambs to restockers eased 2¢ to 578¢/kg cwt
• Heavy new season 3 sore first cross lambs were 20¢ cheaper on 526¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight 3 score Merino ewes eased 73¢ to settle on 350¢/kg cwt

At the close of Monday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator averaged 2¢ easier on 600¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs were eased 10¢, on 517¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs averaged 552¢, back 8¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs settled 1¢ lower on 552¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs were back 8¢, on 539¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator slipped 12¢ and averaged 375¢/kg cwt
