Tuesday daily sheep summary

Lamb numbers at Dubbo increased 37% this week, to 31,500 head. Quality throughout the yarding was good, with heavy weight lambs well supplied, along with a reasonable selection of trade weight types.

Mutton throughput increased 36%, to 7,500 head. Most grades were represented, with the market trending cheaper week-on-week.   

  • Light weight 2 score lambs to restockers averaged 530¢, back 58¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 4 score lambs to processors averaged 628¢, back 34¢/kg cwt
  • Extra heavy weight 4 score lambs were up 4¢, averaging 651¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 4 score Merino ewes averaged 63¢ lower, at 382¢/kg cwt

Lamb consignments at Bendigo decreased 18%, to 12,019 head. Quality was notably mixed, with the market fluctuating as the sale progressed. Trade weight types to processors held firm to cheaper in places, with light weight lambs following a similar trend.

Mutton numbers declined 51%, to 1,962 head. Supply reduced significantly this week, with quality mostly average and conditions finishing firm to cheaper in sections.

  • Light weight 2 score first-cross lambs slipped 59¢, averaging 572¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 3 score lambs to processors were back 7¢, on 649¢/kg cwt  
  • Heavy weight 3 score lambs to slaughter gained 16¢, on 661¢/kg cwt
  • Extra heavy weight 4 score lambs averaged 7¢ lower, on 630¢/kg cwt

At the close of Monday’s markets:

  • The eastern states restocker lamb indicator averaged 579¢, back 24¢/kg cwt from where it finished the previous day
  • Merino lambs were back 10¢, on 582¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs were back 12¢, to 597¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs were back 12¢, to 632¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs were back 8¢, to 648¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator declined 15¢, on 397¢/kg cwt
