Tuesday daily sheep summary

Lamb consignments at Dubbo increased 41% this week, to 19,900 head. With much needed rain recorded across the region, quality was good throughout the yarding. Heavy weight lines were well supplied, with trade categories also well represented.

Mutton numbers increased 40%, to 8,060 head. Most weights and grades were represented, with a mixed amount of quality seen across the penning.

  • Light weight 2 score old lambs to processors eased 6¢, to 564¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 4 score old lambs to slaughter were up 35¢, to 558¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 4 score old lambs to processors jumped 36¢, to 568¢/kg cwt
  • Light weight 2 score Merino ewes averaged 338¢, up 51¢/kg cwt

Throughput at Bendigo decreased 28%, to 10,649 head. Quality was average, with only a select few pens of well finished trade and export lines on offer. All the usual buyers were in attendance, however some operated more selectively as a dearer trend underlined the sale.

Mutton consignments decreased 62%, to 1,930 head. Quality across the sale was plain, with most categories presenting in mixed condition.

  • Light weight 2 score old first-cross lambs averaged 584¢, up 37¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 3 score old lambs were up 25¢, averaging 548¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 3 score old lambs to slaughter jumped 22¢, to 531¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 2 score first-cross ewes averaged 337¢, up 17¢/kg cwt

At the close of Monday’s markets:

  • The eastern states restocker lamb indicator finished on 529¢, up 3¢/kg cwt on where it finished the previous day
  • Merino lambs were up 5¢, at 488¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs were up 5¢, at 521¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs were up 5¢, to 530¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs were up 5¢, at 528¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator gained 2¢, on 343¢/kg cwt
