Friday daily sheep summary

This week at Wagga, lamb supplies lifted 15% to 22,900 head. Quality was very good across most sections, with top drafts of well finished trade lines keenly sought after. The usual export and domestic processor buyers were in operation, with bidding fluctuating throughout the sale.

Sheep numbers increased 22%, to 7,300 head. In what was another good quality offering of mutton, the favourable spring conditions were shown throughout most categories – with buyers bidding strongly as a result.

• New season light weight 2 score lambs to restockers gained 6¢, to 746¢/kg cwt
• New season trade weight 3 score lambs to processors were up 5¢, to 548¢/kg cwt
• New season heavy weight 4 score lambs were back 9¢, to 551¢/kg cwt
• New season extra heavy weight 4 score lambs eased 4¢, to 540¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight 3 score Merino ewes finished 26¢ dearer, at 390¢/kg cwt

At the close of Thursday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator gained 7¢, averaging 622¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs slipped 4¢, to 510¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs were up 6¢, to 563¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs held firm on 539¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs jumped 1¢, on 531¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator finished 3¢ higher, on 391¢/kg cwt
