Thursday daily sheep summary

Lamb supply at CLTX declined 23% this week, to 3,700 head. Cold and wet conditions saw a mixed yarding of lambs penned, with the odd well finished draft seen amongst a fair percentage of plainer types.

Mutton numbers declined 32%, to 750 head. It was a better quality yarding this week, with most grades trending firm to marginally dearer overall.

• Trade weight 3 score new season lambs eased 55¢, to 599¢/kg cwt
• Light weight 2 score old lambs averaged 473¢, back 42¢/kg cwt
• Trade weight 3 score old lambs were back 9¢, to 497¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight 4 score first-cross ewes gained 18¢, averaging 357¢/kg cwt

At Hamilton, lamb consignments declined 46% to 822 head. Quality was mixed, with old lambs presently in mostly average to plain condition overall. A limited field of buyers attended, however not all fully operated, with prices trending firm to slightly dearer as a result.

Mutton throughput decreased 69%, to 2,044 head. Merino ewes and weathers made up the majority of the yarding, with all weights and grades on offer.

• Light weight 2 score old lambs sold averaged 494¢, up 15¢/kg cwt
• Trade weight 3 score old lambs to processors were up 10¢, to 542¢/kg cwt
• Medium weight 2 score first-cross ewes averaged 335¢, back 48¢/kg cwt
• Medium weight 2 score restocker Merino wethers averaged 420¢/kg cwt

At the close of Wednesday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator gained 12¢, to 628¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs were up 5¢, on 534¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs were up 4¢, to 550¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs were up 1¢, on 585¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs were back 1¢, on 588¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator held firm on 412¢/kg cwt
