Thursday daily sheep summary

Lamb throughput at CTLX Carcoar decreased 3%, to 9,300 head. A good quality yarding were on offer this week, with new season lambs to suit processor and store orders well supplied. Old lamb quality remained fair, and restockers were very active throughout the sale.

Mutton numbers increased 35%, to 4,200 head. A very mixed yarding of sheep were penned, with most grades trending cheaper.

  • New season light weight 2 score lambs to restockers dropped 72¢, to 575¢/kg cwt
  • New season trade weight 3 score lambs to processors gained 8¢, to 519¢/kg cwt
  • Old season trade weight 3 score lambs to slaughter were up 19¢, to 524¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes averaged 30¢ lower, at 369¢/kg cwt

Lamb supplies at Hamilton totalled 57,641 head this week – up 23%. In what was quite an impressive yarding, a larger number of processor buyers were in attendance, with a lift in restocker interest recorded compared to the previous sale. Prices ranged from firm to marginally easier for most medium weights, with dryness causing quality to vary throughout the trade and heavy categories, despite most heavier types trending dearer.

  • New season light weight 2 score lambs to restockers were up 8¢, at 636¢/kg cwt
  • New season trade weight 3 score lambs to processors eased 13¢, to 499¢/kg cwt
  • New season heavy weight 4 score lambs gained 1¢, to 506¢/kg cwt
  • New season extra heavy weight 4 score lambs were back 1¢, to 508¢/kg cwt

At the close of Wednesday’s markets:

  • The eastern states restocker lamb indicator remained unchanged on 617¢/kg cwt
  • Merino lambs jumped 1¢, to 498¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs were up 7¢, to 575¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs were back 5¢, on 515¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs dropped 4¢, to 508¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator settled 2¢ lower, at 381¢/kg cwt
