Thursday daily sheep summary

Lamb throughput at CTLX Carcoar decreased 6% this week, to 7,300 head. It was a good quality yarding, with a notable selection of well finished trade weight new season lines, accompanied by the odd heavy weight pen.

Mutton numbers increased 75%, to 2,100 head. Quality varied across the offering, with Merinos limited and the bulk of the yarding consisting of mostly crossbred and white dorper ewes.

  • New season trade weight 3 score lambs were back 48¢, to 523¢/kg cwt
  • New season heavy weight 4 score lambs were back 15¢, to 553¢/kg cwt
  • Old season light weight 3 score lambs gained 15¢, averaging 521¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes finished 33¢ lower, at 340¢/kg cwt

This week at Hamilton, lamb supplies increased 84% to 2,561 head. A lift in new season numbers saw quality range from average to good, with an additional export interstate buyer in attendance. Despite one processor, most other regular buyers were operated, with the market varying across all categories.

Sheep consignments increased 11%, to 3,901 head. A mixed level of quality was seen across the offering, with Merinos and crossbreds making up the bulk of the yarding.

  • New season trade weight 3 score lambs were back 24¢, to 531¢/kg cwt
  • New season heavy weight 4 score lambs were up 1¢, to 528¢/kg cwt
  • New season extra heavy weight 4 score lambs averaged 529¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 4 score first-cross ewes were back 38¢, to 294¢/kg cwt

At the close of Wednesday’s markets:

  • The eastern states restocker lamb indicator settled 4¢ lower, at 620¢/kg cwt
  • Merino lambs were up 7¢, to 537¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs held firm on 574¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs were back 3¢, to 555¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs eased 5¢, to 546¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator settled 3¢ lower, at 357¢/kg cwt
