Thursday daily sheep summary

Lamb throughput at CTLX increased 7% this week, to 7,500 head. It was a fair quality yarding, and trade weights were well supplied. Suitable heavier lines were limited, with most of the regular buying group competing in a solid market.
Mutton numbers decreased 16%, to 2,100 head. Quality was mixed, with most categories finishing firm to dearer overall.
- Light weight 2 score lambs to processors were back 3¢, on 536¢/kg cwt
- Trade weight 3 score lambs to slaughter averaged 634¢, up 32¢/kg cwt
- Heavy weight 4 score lambs to processors were up 27¢, at 672¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 3 score Merino wethers eased 18¢, to 377¢/kg cwt
Lamb consignments at Hamilton declined 29%, to 4,422 head. The usual buyers attended what were quite unfavourable weather conditions this week, with quality ranging from good to average overall. Market competition strengthened as a result of reduced supplies, with many keen to fill orders.
Mutton throughput decreased 37%, to 2,139 head. This week’s penning saw all weights and grades represented, and prices remained mostly unchanged to dearer.
- Light weight 2 score lambs to processors gained 14¢, averaging 600¢/kg cwt
- Trade weight 3 score lambs to slaughter were up 36¢, on 676¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes gained 12¢, at 417¢/kg cwt
At the close of Wednesday’s markets:
- The eastern states restocker lamb indicator averaged 580¢, back 4¢/kg cwt from where it finished the previous day
- Merino lambs were up 1¢, on 593¢/kg cwt
- Light lambs were up 7¢, to 589¢/kg cwt
- Trade lambs were up 7¢, to 635¢/kg cwt
- Heavy lambs were up 5¢, to 650¢/kg cwt
- The mutton indicator gained 7¢, on 398¢/kg cwt
