Thursday daily sheep summary

Lamb consignments to CTLX Carcoar lifted to 4,900 head. It was a mixed yarding, with some good lines of well finished new season lambs along with a fair percentage of tail end old lambs, resulting in a cheaper market.

Mutton numbers also jumped, reaching 1,950 head. Quality was mostly plain and most sold to a cheaper trend.  

• New season trade weight 3 score lambs to processors fell 84¢, to average 549¢/kg cwt
• Old trade weight 3 score lambs decreased 119¢ to average 497¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight 3 score Merino wethers reached 360¢ and averaged 350¢/kg cwt

Lamb throughput at Horsham liftedto 15,369 head, up 5,477 head. Quality was from average to very good, with a good selection of all weights and grades on offer. Lambs sold to an easier trend after very strong sales in previous weeks, with the heavy weights particularly affected.

Sheep numbers were also up, with 3,508 head yarded and all weights and grades were on offer. Heavy sheep sold close to firm, while medium weight Merino sheep eased.

• New season trade weight 3 score lambs to 557¢ and averaged 526¢, back 60¢/kg cwt
• New season heavy weight 3 score lambs eased 53¢ and averaged 523¢/kg cwt
• Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes averaged 66¢ cheaper, on 430¢/kg cwt

At the close of Wednesday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator averaged 10¢ lower on 594¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs were eased 4¢, on 524¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs averaged 569¢, back 10¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs settled 7¢ lower on 571¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs were back 5¢, on 565¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator slipped 4¢ and averaged 401¢/kg cwt
