Points of interest from the latest reports include;

  • Shipments of beef to Korea for the 12-months ending October were up 9% year-on-year. Grainfed volumes were up 28% to 53,201 tonnes swt, while grassfed product increased 2% to 122,423 tonnes swt. However, total exports for the month of October decreased 3% from year-ago levels, largely due to a reduction in Australian grassfed beef exports (back 12%) and safeguard volumes being triggered, despite an 18% lift in grainfed volumes year-on-year.
  • Beef exports to North America declined 41% for the 12-months ending October. Volumes to the US near halved – with both chilled and frozen exports decreasing by a similar magnitude, following a decline in Australian supplies and increased US production.
  • Beef shipments to Japan during October declined 20% for both grainfed and grassfed product. Interestingly, volumes of grassfed and grainfed product each made up approximately 50% of exports over the last year, illustrating a shift towards grainfed supplies while reduced availability of grassfed product limits exports.
  • Lamb exports to the US lifted for the 12-months ending October from year-ago levels, up 12% to 52,903 tonnes swt. In October, shipments lifted 6% year-on-year, to 4,850 tonnes swt. Meanwhile, sheepmeat exports to China for the 12-months ending October declined 8% year-on-year, despite lamb volumes lifting 19% year-on-year.
