Friday daily sheep summary

This week at Wagga, lamb throughput declined 46% to 15,550 head. Quality was fair to good, with both well finished and plainer sections in good supply. All the usual buyers competed in the dearer market, with new season lines making up the bulk of the yarding.

Mutton consignments decreased 50%, to 5,460 head. Quality was notably mixed across the penning this week, with Merinos well represented.  

• New season light weight 2 score lambs averaged 678¢, up 7¢/kg cwt
• New season trade weight 3 score lambs were up 18¢, at 658¢/kg cwt
• Old season light weight 3 score lambs reached 677¢, averaging 634¢/kg cwt
• Old season trade weight 3 score lambs to slaughter averaged 624¢/kg cwt
• Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes were back 1¢, averaging 413¢/kg cwt

At the close of Thursday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator eased 1¢, to 635¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs gained 12¢, on 561¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs were up 11¢, on 597¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs were up 10¢, on 613¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs were up 5¢, to 613¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator settled 4¢ dearer, at 411¢/kg cwt
