Friday daily sheep summary

This week at Wagga, lamb supplies lifted 81% on last week’s rain effected yarding, to 29,000 head. Quality continued to vary across old trade and heavy weight categories, and new season offerings followed a similar trend. The usual export and domestic buyers operated, with restocker activity limited throughout the sale.

Sheep numbers increased substantially to 11,000 head this week. It was a mixed quality offering, with a reasonable supply of heavy mutton penned.

• New season trade weight 3 score lambs gained 6¢, to 640¢/kg cwt
• Old season light weight 2 score Merino lambs were up 34¢, at 554¢/kg cwt
• Old season trade weight 3 score lambs jumped 25¢, to 577¢/kg cwt
• Old season heavy weight 4 score lambs were 33¢ dearer, on 627¢/kg cwt
• Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes were back 20¢, averaging 414¢/kg cwt

At the close of Thursday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator lifted 27¢, to 578¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs gained 5¢, on 548¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs were up 2¢, to 583¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs were up 3¢, to 601¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs held firm on 605¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator finished 4¢ cheaper, on 406¢/kg cwt
