Friday daily sheep summary

This week at Wagga, lamb throughput declined 27% to 16,000 head. Widespread rainfall across the supply area saw numbers tighten, with new season lambs still yet to arrive. Quality was quite mixed across old trade and heavy categories, with the usual export and domestic buyers in attendance and demand fluctuating throughout the sale.

Mutton numbers held mostly firm this week at 4,000 head. It was a mixed quality offering of sheep, with a reasonable supply of heavy sheep on offer.

• Trade weight 3 score new season lambs eased 7¢, to 587¢/kg cwt
• Light weight 2 score old Merino lambs averaged 519¢/kg cwt
• Extra heavy weight 4 score old lambs were up 20¢, to 614¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight 4 score first-cross ewes gained 23¢, averaging 406¢/kg cwt

At the close of Thursday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator declined 19¢, to 609¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs held firm on 534¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs were up 1¢, to 551¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs were back 4¢, on 581¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs were back 2¢, on 586¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator settled 1¢ lower, on 411¢/kg cwt
