Friday daily sheep summary

At Wagga this week, lamb throughput increased 6% to 29,500 head. An influxe of new season lambs were on offer, with quality mixed across trade and heavy weight categories in particular. Not all export buyers were in attendance, however domestic buyers operated keenly in a firm to stronger market in places.

Mutton consignments increased 14%, to 6,030 head. Quality lifted throughout the offering this week, with heavy weight lines well represented.

  • Trade weight 3 score new season lambs were 47¢ dearer, at 714¢/kg cwt
  • Light weight 2 score lambs to processors averaged 634¢, up 17¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 3 score lambs to slaughter jumped 10¢, to 695¢/kg cwt
  • Extra heavy weight 4 score lambs averaged 15¢ lower, at 634¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 2 score Merino wethers gained 36¢, averaging 407¢/kg cwt  

At the close of Thursday’s markets:

  • The eastern states restocker lamb indicator averaged 542¢, back 83¢/kg cwt from where it finished the previous day
  • Merino lambs were up 3¢, on 552¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs were up 7¢, to 578¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs were up 5¢, on 644¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs were up 2¢, on 645¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator gained 7¢, on 394¢/kg cwt
