Friday daily sheep summary

At Wagga, lamb throughput increased 4% this week, to 27,800 head. Quality across trade and heavy weight categories was good, however lighter sections were much plainer as a result of an increase in new season supply. Not all export buyers operated fully, while major domestic processors bid keenly on those in good finish.

Mutton numbers declined 25%, to 5,280 head. A mixed quality offering was yarded this week, with all weights and grades represented.

• Light weight 2 score lambs to slaughter  averaged 617¢, up 24¢/kg cwt
• Trade weight 3 score lambs to processors were up 65¢, at 685¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight 4 score lambs gained 22¢, averaging 665¢/kg cwt
• Extra heavy 4 score lambs averaged 23¢ higher, at 649¢/kg cwt
• Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes were back 5¢, averaging 347¢/kg cwt

At the close of Thursday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator averaged 611¢, up 66¢/kg cwt from where it finished the previous day
• Merino lambs were up 1¢, on 559¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs were up 5¢, to 565¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs were up 12¢, on 635¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs were up 7¢, to 639¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator gained 2¢, on 387¢/kg cwt
