Friday daily sheep summary

This week at Wagga, lamb numbers increased 13% to 26,000 head. In what was a very mixed yarding, lambs in full wool mostly lacked finish and presented in a dryer condition compared to the last sale. Shorn trade and heavy drafts were reasonably well supplied, with most new season lines trending cheaper, while restockers and lot feeders continued to bid strongly on lighter weights.

Sheep throughput increased 67%, to 10,000 head. A good quality offering of mutton was penned this week, with plenty of weight on offer to the usual field of buyers and most trade categories selling dearer.

• New season light weight 2 score lambs to restockers were back 73¢, at 647¢/kg cwt
• New season trade weight 3 score lambs to processors slipped 20¢, to 521¢/kg cwt
• Old season trade weight 3 score lambs to slaughter eased 18¢, to 528¢/kg cwt
• Old season heavy weight 4 score lambs averaged 7¢ lower, at 537¢/kg cwt
• Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes were back 6¢, averaging 354¢/kg cwt

At the close of Thursday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator settled 12¢ lower, at 605¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs eased 24¢, to 474¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs slipped 3¢, to 572¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs held firm on 515¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs dropped 1¢, to 507¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator jumped 2¢, at 383¢/kg cwt
