Friday daily sheep summary

This week at Wagga Wagga, lamb supplies remained similar at 23,000 head. Quality varied across all categories, with few numbers of shorn new season lambs on offer – as the bulk of the offering was made up of trade and heavier weights. The usual export buyers competed strongly, with not all processors in attendance resulting in a cheaper trend in places. Secondary lines were also well supplied, with restockers setting the platform for the market.

• New season light weight 2 score lambs to restockers eased 20¢, at 726¢/kg cwt
• New season trade weight 3 score lambs to processors were up 8¢, at 541¢/kg cwt
• Old season heavy weight 4 score lambs to slaughter averaged 3¢ dearer, at 544¢/kg cwt
• Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes sold to 401¢, averaging 388¢/kg cwt – steady
• Heavy weight 3 score Merino wethers gained 1¢, averaging 390¢/kg cwt

At the close of Thursday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator averaged 16¢ dearer, at 622¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs eased 4¢, at 492¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs were back 3¢, at 565¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs were back 3¢, on 531¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs slipped 4¢, to 520¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator settled 2¢ higher, on 400¢/kg cwt
