Friday daily sheep summary

This week at Wagga, lamb supplies increased 13% to 27,000 head. In what was a very good quality yarding, shorn new season lambs were particularly well supplied – with fewer lighter weight categories penned. Domestic and export processors were active, however competition was sporadic throughout the sale.

Sheep throughput declined 25%, to 6,000 head. Quality was very good amongst the offering this week, with heavy mutton well supplied and prices generally cheaper overall.

• New season trade weight 3 score lambs gained 24¢, to 570¢/kg cwt
• New season heavy weight 4 score lambs were up 40¢, 579¢/kg cwt
• New season extra heavy weight 4 score lambs jumped 27¢, 575¢/kg cwt
• Old season trade weight 3 score lambs lifted 60¢, to 560¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight 4 score first-cross ewes were back 3¢, to 326¢/kg cwt

At the close of Thursday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator averaged 12¢ lower on 613¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs were up 3¢, on 508¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs were up 3¢, to 572¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs were up 3¢, to 561¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs lifted 7¢, to 559¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator settled 5¢ cheaper, at 369¢/kg cwt
