Friday daily sheep summary

At Wagga this week, lamb throughput increased 17%, to 28,000 head. Numbers lifted despite the continued wet conditions, with new season sections well supplied and quality quite good over trade and export classes. The usual export and domestic buyers were in attendance, however competition was sporadic – with strong restocker competition seen on lighter weight categories.

Sheep numbers increased 68%, to 6,700 head. A good quality offering of mutton was yarded this week, with heavier drafts well supplied and competition strengthening for Merino sections.

• New season light weight 2 score lambs eased 12¢, to 674¢/kg cwt
• New season trade weight 3 score lambs slipped 44¢, to 594¢/kg cwt
• New season heavy weight 4 score lambs were back 24¢, to 610¢/kg cwt
• Old season trade weight 3 score lambs dropped 84¢, to 532¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight 3 score Merino ewes were 18¢ dearer, at 414¢/kg cwt

At the close of Thursday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator lifted 1¢, to 640¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs were up 1¢, on 535¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs were 2¢ lower, on 588¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs were down 9¢, on 599¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs were back 3¢, to 594¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator settled 1¢ lower, on 400¢/kg cwt
