Friday daily sheep summary

Lamb throughput at Wagga decreased 33% this week, to 24,000 head. Quality varied across all categories, with supplementary fed lines and those Lucerne finished attracting the strongest competition. Demand held firm for plainer types, with not all buyers operating fully due to good supplies of over-the-hook lambs.
Mutton numbers increased 14%, to 9,000 head. Quality was mixed, with all weights and grades well represented. Demand fluctuated for crossbred categories, with Merinos selling to strong demand.
- Light weight 2 score old lambs to processors lifted 73¢, at 590¢/kg cwt
- Trade weight 3 score old lambs to slaughter jumped 18¢, to 513¢/kg cwt
- Heavy weight 4 score old lambs to processors eased 13¢, 511¢/kg cwt
- Extra heavy weight 4 score old lambs were up 17¢, 511¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes were 9¢ dearer, averaging 311¢/kg cwt
At the close of Thursday’s markets:
- The eastern states restocker lamb indicator finished on 503¢, up 15¢/kg cwt on where it finished the previous day
- Merino lambs were up 9¢, at 481¢/kg cwt
- Light lambs were up 8¢, at 506¢/kg cwt
- Trade lambs were up 2¢, to 518¢/kg cwt
- Heavy lambs were up 4¢, at 514¢/kg cwt
- The mutton indicator gained 2¢, on 318¢/kg cwt
