Friday daily sheep summary

The drier conditions resulted in the Wagga lamb yarding lifting 42% to 30,000 head. Quality was very good over new season lambs categories, with plenty of lambs suitable for the trade. Old trade and heavy lamb categories were much plainer and not all buyers participated. The usual export and domestic buyers attended, although not all operated to fully.

Mutton numbers more than tripled, reaching 12,000 head. It was an exceptional offering of sheep, with greater numbers of heavy sheep which sold to a cheaper trend.

• Trade weight new season 3 score lambs were 66¢ cheaper, averaging 536¢/kg cwt
• Heavy young 3 score lambs were 78¢ easier on 524¢/kg cwt
• Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes slipped 68¢ and averaged 366¢/kg cwt

At the close of Thursday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator averaged 2¢ higher on 596¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs were eased 3¢, on 521¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs averaged 568¢, back 1¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs settled 9¢ lower on 562¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs were back 10¢, on 555¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator slipped 9¢ and averaged 392¢/kg cwt
