Lamb consignments at Wagga decreased 24% this week, to 29,700 head. Condition of lighter weight categories was impacted by the wet conditions, while quality throughout trade and heavy lines very good, as most were supplementary or Lucerne finished. Not all export buyers operated, and processors were more selective, bidding strongly on those with a shorter skin and with good finish.
Mutton numbers declined 23%, to 6,900 head. It was a mixed quality yarding of mutton, with all weights and grades on offer, and heavy Merino ewes in full wool attracting the strongest competition.
- Trade weight 3 score lambs to processors eased 8¢, at on 644¢/kg cwt
- Heavy weight 4 score lambs to slaughter gained 4¢, on 659¢/kg cwt
- Extra heavy weight 4 score lambs averaged 633¢, back 12¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes slipped 9¢, averaging 347¢/kg cwt
At the close of Thursday’s markets:
- The eastern states restocker lamb indicator averaged 577¢, back 4¢/kg cwt from where it finished the previous day
- Merino lambs were back 3¢, on 584¢/kg cwt
- Light lambs were back 7¢, to 579¢/kg cwt
- Trade lambs were back 3¢, to 618¢/kg cwt
- Heavy lambs were back 3¢, to 636¢/kg cwt
- The mutton indicator declined 3¢, on 377¢/kg cwt
