Friday daily cattle summary

Cattle numbers at Roma Prime, declined 15%, to 530 head. Prime cattle supplies remained notably low, with most drawn from local regions. Cows made up the majority of the yarding and light weight bullocks were well represented, with strong processor demand boosting medium weight grown steers prices.
- Medium C3 grown steers to feed gained 36¢, averaging 336¢, while heavy C4 sections to processors gained 9¢, averaging 326¢/kg
- Heavy D4 cows to slaughter were back 2¢, averaging 263¢/kg
Dubbo cattle throughput decreased 31%, to 2,355 head. It was a mixed quality yarding, with a fair selection of supplementary fed prime cattle penned, along with a larger percentage of plainer sections compared to previous weeks. Young trade cattle held firm, while older grown sections were mostly dearer.
- Heavy C2 yearling steers to feed gained 9¢, averaging 378¢/kg
- Heavy C3 yearling heifers to processors were back 1¢, 353¢/kg
- Heavy C4 grown steers to slaughter averaged 13¢ dearer, at 347¢/kg
Consignments at Bairnsdale increased 23%, to 646 head. Export sections were well represented, with the usual buying group presented and operating in a mixed, however mostly soft, market overall. Quality improved amongst the supplementary fed sections and sold dearer as a result, while most grassfed lines lacked finish.
- Heavy C3 yearling steers to processors were back 7¢, averaging 370¢/kg
- Heavy D3 yearling heifers to slaughter eased 15¢, averaging 331¢/kg
- Medium E1 dairy cows sold to 220¢, averaging 205¢, back 3¢/kg
At the close of Thursday’s markets:
- The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) settled at 712.25¢/kg cwt, up 0.75¢/kg cwt on where it had finished the previous day
- Trade steers held firm on 367¢/kg lwt
- Medium steers were up 3¢, to 329¢/kg lwt
- Heavy steers were up 5¢, on 342¢/kg lwt
- Medium cows were up 1¢, on 256¢/kg lwt
- Feeder steers were up 1¢, on 378¢/kg lwt
