Friday daily cattle summary

This week at Emerald, cattle numbers lifted substantially on last weeks rain affected yarding, at 2,616 head. Consignments were sourced from both western and local regions, with the usual array of buyers present and active and a good level of quality seen across most categories.

  • Light C2 vealer steers to restockers gained 10¢, averaging 410¢/kg
  • Medium C2 yearling steers to feed were up 24¢, averaging 365¢/kg
  • Heavy D4 cows to processors finished 8¢ dearer, at 261¢/kg

Throughput at Roma Prime increased 72%, to 447 head. Quality was good this week, with the market trending stronger overall. A good offering of bullocks were penned, with cows also well supplied.

  • Heavy C4 bullocks to processors were up 15¢, averaging 318¢/kg
  • Light C3 grown heifers to slaughter gained 18¢, to 297¢/kg
  • Medium D4 cows to slaughter averaged 1¢ lower, at 269¢/kg

Consignments at Dubbo lifted 79%, to 3,570 head. Following a few days of finer weather, a good quality offering was yarded this week – with a notable selection of prime conditioned cattle seen across all sections. Vealer and yearling steers to the trade trended marginally dearer, while female counterparts slightly cheaper overall.

  • Heavy C3 yearling steers to feed were back 13¢, averaging 371¢/kg
  • Heavy C3 yearling heifers to feed held firm, averaging 354¢/kg
  • Heavy D4 cows to processors were back 7¢, averaging 269¢/kg

At the close of Thursday’s markets:         

  • The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) settled on 717.25¢, back 1.75¢/kg cwt, on where it had finished the previous day
  • Trade steers were up 1, on 378¢/kg lwt
  • Medium steers were back 2¢, on 354¢/kg lwt
  • Heavy steers were firm on 345¢/kg lwt
  • Medium cows were firm on 258¢/kg lwt
  • Feeder steers finished 1¢ lower, on 385¢/kg lwt
