Friday daily cattle summary

Cattle consignments at Dubbo decreased 72% this week, to 748 head. Despite wet weather leading to lower numbers, quality remained good. There were plenty of mixed quality cows with limited numbers of grown steers. The dearer market limited the numbers of buyers that operated.

  • Medium C2 yearling steers to feed eased 8¢, averaging 354¢/kg
  • Medium D3 cows to processors averaged 10¢ higher, at 261¢/kg
  • Heavy D3 cows to slaughter were up 12¢, averaging 259¢/kg

Cattle numbers at Bairnsdale declined 14%, to 723 head. Quality was good with the usual buyers competing in a dearer market upon the return of a domestic supermarket order.

  • Heavy C3 grown steers to processors were up 17¢, averaging 336¢/kg
  • Light D1 manufacturing steers to restockers averaged 240¢/kg
  • Heavy D2 cows to slaughter gained 17¢, to 255¢/kg

At the close of Thursday’s markets:                                                                           

  • The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) averaged 641¢, up 0.25¢/kg cwt on where it finished the previous day
  • Trade steers were steady, at 343¢/kg lwt
  • Medium steers were firm, on 338¢/kg lwt
  • Heavy steers were up 5¢, to 325¢/kg lwt
  • Medium cows were up 3¢, to 254¢/kg lwt
  • Feeder steers were down 2¢, to 351¢/kg lwt
