Friday daily cattle summary

Despite the widespread rain throughout the region, numbers at Dubbo lifted to 1,990 head. Quality was relatively good and most of the regular buying panel were present, which included an active contingent of restockers.

• Heavy C3 yearling steers to feed were steady on 384¢ while medium weight heifers to slaughter lifted 8¢ to 358¢/kg
• Medium weight C3 grown steers to feed jumped 41¢ to average 373¢/kg
• D4 heavy cows to slaughter were 1¢ easier on 277¢/kg

Numbers at Bairnsdale dropped to 499 head week-on-week. The fewer numbers resulted in the usual buyers competing in a generally dearer market, particularly for store conditioned stock, despite the plainer quality offered.

• D3 yearling heifers to slaughter held steady week-on-week, averaging 374¢/kg
• Medium weight D3 grown steers averaged 351¢ to processors, up 6¢/kg
• D1 medium weight beef cows to processors lifted 6¢ and returned 242¢ while E1 dairy cows were also 6¢ dearer, on 224¢/kg

At the close of Thursday’s markets:         

• The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) settled on 714.75¢, up 2¢/kg cwt, on where it had finished the previous day
• Trade steers lifted 1¢ to 386¢/kg lwt
• Medium steers jumped 3¢, to 354¢/kg lwt
• Heavy steers were up 2¢, to 357¢/kg lwt
• Medium cows remained steady on 265¢/kg lwt
• Feeder steers were up 2¢, on 383¢/kg lwt
