Wednesday daily sheep summary

Lamb and sheep supply eased at Ballarat, with 24,633 head supplied. Restocker buyers were active and competed with processors to secure lines.

  • Light weight 2 score lambs to restockers were 16¢ cheaper on 524¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 3 score lambs to slaughter gained 11¢ to average 542¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 4 score lambs to slaughter were firm to cheaper to range in price from 489¢ to 569¢/kg cwt
  • Light weight 2 score Merino ewes gained 1¢ to 304¢, while medium weight 3 scores were 2¢ cheaper on 308¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 2 score first cross ewes were unchanged on 278¢/kg cwt

Consignments eased at Forbes, with 31,550 head of sheep and lambs penned. Heavy and extra heavy weight lambs made up a large percentage of the yarding.

  • Trade weight 4 score lambs to slaughter slipped 14¢ to average 526¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 4 score lambs to slaughter were 16¢ cheaper on 530¢/kg cwt
  • Extra heavy weight 4 score lambs to slaughter eased 6¢ to average 486¢/kg cwt
  • Light weight 2 score Merino ewes eased 12¢ to 326¢, while medium weight 3 scores decreased 7¢ to settle on 331¢/kg cwt

At the close of Tuesday’s markets:                                     

  • The eastern states restocker lamb indicator slipped 4¢ to 558¢/kg cwt
  • Merino lambs gained 8¢ to 490¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs lost 1¢ to 527¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs were back 2¢, at 525¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs declined 4¢ to 521¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator was 4¢ cheaper on 304¢/kg cwt
