Thursday daily sheep summary

CTLX lamb consignments increased 34% this week, to 8,400 head. Yarding quality varied across all categories, with some exceptional drafts of heavy weight lines penned. Trade weights were also in good supply, with light lambs to processors holding firm to cheaper in places.
Mutton throughput increased 53%, to 5,200 head. A plainer trend was seen across the offering, with well finished sheep limited throughout all categories.
- Light weight 2 score old lambs to processors lowered 30¢, to 528¢/kg cwt
- Trade weight 3 score old lambs to slaughter jumped 30¢, to 596¢/kg cwt
- Heavy weight 4 score old lambs averaged 561¢, back 20¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes were 21¢ lower, at 336¢/kg cwt
Lamb numbers at Hamilton increased 26% week-on-week, to 7,005 head. Quality improved across most categories, and buyer attendance followed a similar trend, with most competing strongly in a dearer market overall.
Mutton consignments increased 64%, to 5,231 head. Conditions across most sections improved this week, with crossbred and Merino ewes and wethers selling to firm demand.
- Light weight 2 score old lambs to processors were 2¢ lower, on 587¢/kg cwt
- Trade weight 3 score old lambs to slaughter held firm, averaging 572¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 2 score first-cross ewes jumped 6¢, averaging 339¢/kg cwt
At the close of Wednesday’s markets:
- The eastern states restocker lamb indicator increased 2¢ on where it finished the previous day, on 548¢/kg cwt
- Merino lambs held firm, at 520¢/kg cwt
- Light lambs held firm, at 550¢/kg cwt
- Trade lambs were back 2¢, on 563¢/kg cwt
- Heavy lambs were back 1¢, on 560¢/kg cwt
- The mutton indicator finished 2¢ higher on 367¢/kg cwt
