Thursday daily sheep summary

Lamb throughput at CTLX increased 7% week-on-week, to 12,250 head. Quality across the yarding was notably mixed, with a fair selection of trade, heavy weight and store lines.
Mutton numbers increased 15%, to 5,400 head. Quality remained fair this week, with plainer categories in particularly good supply.
- Light weight 2 score old lambs to restockers averaged 566¢, back 14¢/kg cwt
- Trade weight 3 score old lambs to restockers were up 38¢, at 549¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes averaged 295¢, up 26¢/kg cwt
Numbers at Hamilton decreased 14%, to 9,765 head. Most of the regular buyers were present, although not all were fully operational, in what was a mixed quality yarding. Demand eased on week-ago levels, with medium and heavy weight lines lacking cover, resulting in a cheaper trend.
Mutton consignments increased 84%, to 6,940 head. Prices varied across all categories, with lighter weights easing and medium weight lines much firmer.
- Light weight 2 score old lambs to slaughter eased 8¢, averaging 544¢/kg cwt
- Trade weight 3 score old lambs to slaughter were 23¢ lower, at 523¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes averaged 314¢, back 11¢/kg cwt
At the close of Wednesday’s markets:
- The eastern states restocker lamb indicator finished at 538¢, back 5¢/kg cwt on where it finished yesterday.
- Merino lambs were back 1¢, to 467¢/kg cwt
- Light lambs were steady, at 504¢/kg cwt
- Trade lambs were steady, at 518¢/kg cwt
- Heavy lambs were back 1¢, to 509¢/kg cwt
- The mutton indicator was up 1¢, to 310¢/kg cwt
