Thursday daily sheep summary

Lamb consignments at CTLX decreased 46% this week, to 6,500 head. Following notable showers, a good amount of quality was seen across the yarding. Heavy and trade weight lines were well supplied, with lighter categories also well represented.

Mutton throughput decreased 23%, to 4,100 head. Quality was mostly plain this week, with only odd pens of well finished lines on offer.

  • Light weight 2 score old lambs to restockers eased 34¢, to 509¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 3 score old lambs to processors were up 51¢, to 547¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 4 score old lambs to slaughter were up 60¢, to 557¢/kg cwt
  • Light weight 2 score Merino ewes averaged 324¢, up 41¢/kg cwt  

Lamb numbers at Hamilton decreased 28%, to 4,439 head. Quality varied across the penning, with less weight offered on average. Most of the regular buyers were in attendance, with an increase in demand seen for domestic orders.

Mutton consignments declined 8%, to 2,954 head. Quality was mixed across the offering, with some good lines of crossbred ewes and Merino wethers penned.  

  • Light weight 2 score old lambs to slaughter jumped 24¢, to 560¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 3 score old lambs to processors were up 15¢, to 551¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 4 score old lambs jumped 32¢, averaging 544¢/kg cwt  
  • Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes averaged 323¢, up 24¢/kg cwt

At the close of Wednesday’s markets:                               

  • The eastern states restocker lamb indicator finished on 525¢, back 15¢/kg cwt on where it finished the previous day
  • Merino lambs were up 1¢, at 486¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs were up 2¢, at 519¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs were up 2¢, to 529¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs were up 4¢, at 523¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator gained 4¢, on 334¢/kg cwt
