NVLX Wodonga weaner sales attract strong support

Over the past two weeks NVLX Wodonga has yarded 18,000 weaner cattle at the annual weaner sales, up around 4,000 head on last year.
The first store feature sale comprised of 3,621 head and the market was dearer with buyers from Victoria, NSW and Queensland bidding strongly on the exceptional cattle offered.
- The top price for weaner steers was $1,330/head, weighing over 330kg.
- The top price for weaner heifers was $1,190/head, weighing over 400kg.
The second store feature sale produced a much larger offering of Angus steers and heifers – 5,216 in total. The market was buoyed by recent rain in NSW and Queensland, with prices up $300 to $400/head on the previous year.
- Good quality lines of weaner steers, 280-330kg, made from $860 to $1,175/head.
- There was solid feedlot support which saw the top price of $1,560/head for steers weighing 467kg.
The third weaner store sale yarded 3,900 head and prices were lower than year-ago levels. The bulk of the yarding was purchased by northern buyers, as water availability has reportedly become a concern in the local area.
- Medium weight steers returning to the paddock made from $1,050/head to a top of $1,270/head.
- Feeder steers over 400kg sold to a high of $1,600/head
The last day of the mixed breed feature sales saw 5,200 head offered. A large crowd was present and northern restockers were prominent.
- Weaner steers over 330kg sold to $1,415 for Herefords, while feeder Angus steers over 400kg made to $1,640/head.
- Prices for heifers fluctuated due to slightly weaker feedlot demand. Heifers weighing 280kg to 330kg made up a large percentage of the yarding and sold from $890 to $1,180/head.
