Friday daily sheep summary

Lamb throughput at Wagga increased 5% week-on-week, to 35,690 head. Quality was very mixed across the penning, with lighter weights well supplied as a result of the dry seasonal conditions. Supplementary and Lucerne fed lines attracted solid competition, however not all buyers operated, with processors more selective on those longer in wool.
Mutton numbers decreased 21%, to 7,900 head. All weights and grades were on offer, with quality continuing to vary across all categories. Heavy mutton conditions fluctuated, while those suitable to the trade selling to a dearer trend.
- Light weight 2 score old lambs to restockers were 64¢ lower, on 542¢/kg cwt
- Trade weight 3 score old lambs to processor eased 1¢, averaging 495¢/kg
- Heavy weight 4 score old lambs to slaughter jumped 53¢, to 524¢/kg
- Extra heavy weight 4 score old lambs averaged 494¢, up 24¢/kg
At the close of Thursday’s markets:
- The eastern states restocker lamb indicator finished at 477¢, back 12¢/kg cwt on where it finished yesterday.
- Merino lambs were back 1¢, at 465¢/kg cwt
- Light lambs were up 4¢, at 489¢/kg cwt
- Trade lambs were up 2¢, at 509¢/kg cwt
- Heavy lambs were up 6¢, at 508¢/kg cwt
- The mutton indicator decreased 3¢, to 315¢/kg cwt
