Friday daily sheep summary

Lamb throughput at Wagga continued an upward trend this week, increasing 8% to 37,090 head. Conditions fluctuated across the sale, with a good percentage of plainer trade and light weights having an influence. Supplementary fed lines with a shorter skin, along with those lucerne finished, ignited the bidding, with all major exporters and domestic processors operating fully.
Mutton numbers increased 11%, to 7,800 head. Quality was mixed across the offering, with all weights and grades well represented and demand varying over heavy weight sections in particular.
- Trade weight 3 score old lambs to processors eased 1¢, at 573¢/kg cwt
- Heavy weight 4 score old lambs to slaughter jumped 9¢, to 576¢/kg cwt
- Extra heavy weight 4 score old lambs averaged 556¢, up 6¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes were back 16¢, on 386¢/kg cwt
At the close of Thursday’s markets:
- The eastern states restocker lamb indicator increased 7¢ on where it finished the previous day, on 555¢/kg cwt
- Merino lambs were back 6¢, at 514¢/kg cwt
- Light lambs were back 1¢, at 549¢/kg cwt
- Trade lambs were back 4¢, on 559¢/kg cwt
- Heavy lambs were up 1¢, on 561¢/kg cwt
- The mutton indicator finished 6¢ lower on 361¢/kg cwt
