Friday daily sheep summary

Wagga lamb throughput increased 29%, to 29,600 head. Quality was mixed in what was the last sale before the Easter break. Grain-fed lines, recently off Lucerne feed, sold to strong competition, with demand solid for plainer types. Not all the regular buyers were in attendance, with lines to suit processor orders in good supply.
Sheep numbers increased 8% this week, to 8,620 head. Quality was very mixed, with all weights and grades on show. Demand was stronger overall, with medium and heavy mutton trending dearer.
- Trade weight 3 score old lambs to processors jumped 33¢, to 524¢/kg cwt
- Heavy weight 3 score old lambs were 9¢ dearer, averaging 526¢/kg cwt
- Extra heavy weight 4 score old lambs were up 11¢, to 517¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes averaged 311¢, up 22¢/kg cwt
At the close of Thursday’s markets:
- The eastern states restocker lamb indicator increased 3¢, to 523¢/kg cwt
- Merino lambs were up 17¢, to 473¢/kg cwt
- Light lambs were back 4¢, to 499¢/kg cwt
- Trade lambs were up 3¢, to 522¢/kg cwt
- Heavy lambs were up 4¢, to 515¢/kg cwt
- The mutton indicator increased 7¢, to 286¢/kg cwt
