Wednesday daily sheep summary

Ballarat lamb throughput increased 8% week-on-week, to 41,909 head. Quality was mixed across all categories, with reasonable numbers of heavy lambs penned. The usual buying group operated in a stable market.
Sheep numbers were back 3% week-on-week, to 14,317 head. All categories were well represented, including some good quality lines of heavy sheep.
- Light weight 2 score restocker young lambs were back 4¢ on 503¢/kg cwt
- Trade weight 3 score young lambs to slaughter gained 11¢ to 512¢/kg cwt
- Heavy weight 3 score young lambs to slaughter remained steady on 516¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes declined 2¢ averaging 333¢/kg cwt
Lamb consignments at Forbes decreased 1% week-on-week, to 11,300 head. Quality dropped from the previous sale, with many lots showing the effects of dry conditions. The full field of buyers were present and competing in a cheaper market.
Sheep numbers eased 1% week-on-week to 6,100 head of mixed quality lines.
- Light weight 2 score restocker young lambs decreased 20¢, averaging 544¢/kg cwt
- Trade weight 4 score lambs to slaughter fell 4¢ to 542¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes climbed 3¢ to average 334¢/kg cwt
At the close of Tuesday’s markets:
- The eastern states restocker lamb indicator fell 3¢ on 542¢/kg cwt
- Merino lambs dropped 7¢ on 448¢/kg cwt
- Light lambs lost 4¢ on 504¢/kg cwt
- Trade lambs were steady on 511¢/kg cwt
- Heavy lambs dipped 1¢ on 516¢/kg cwt
- The mutton indicator slipped 1¢ on 326¢/kg cwt
