Wednesday daily cattle summary

Throughput at Rome Store declined 17%, to 8,979 head. Cattle quality ranged from very good to plain. Additional restocker activity pushed up light weight yearling heifers and strong feeder demand lifted heavy weight steer prices.
- Light (200-280kg) C2 yearling restockers steers eased 3¢, averaging 312¢ and selling to a top of 334¢/kg
- Heavy C3 lines to feed on jumped 22¢, averaging 320¢/kg
- Light (200-280kg) C2 yearling heifers to restockers lifted 40¢, averaging 288¢ and selling to 328¢/kg
- Medium D3 cows to slaughter gained 12¢, averaging 236¢/kg
CTLX yarded 1,200 head, back 40% week-on-week, and quality was mixed, with a fair selection of prime cattle along with reasonable numbers of young cattle lacking finish. Young cattle prices mostly improved, with EYCI eligible cattle averaging 611.48¢/kg cwt, up 12.21¢/kg cwt week-on-week.
- Medium C2 yearling feeder steers eased 1¢, averaging 323¢/kg
- Medium C3 yearling trade heifers jumped 26¢, averaging 327¢/kg
- Heavy C4 grown steers eased 4¢, to average 327¢/kg
- Heavy D4 cows eased 1¢, averaging 261¢/kg
Consignments at NVLX declined 29%, to 1,320 head, and there was a reduced offering of crop and supplementary finished trade yearlings. Heavy grown steers and bullocks were in increased numbers and sold to strong demand. A full panel of buyers was present.
- Heavy C2 yearling feeder steers eased 2¢, averaging 333¢/kg
- Medium C3 yearling heifers to the trade improved 7¢, averaging 318¢/kg
- Heavy C3 grown steers to slaughter gained 10¢, averaging 329¢ and selling to 349/kg
- Light (0-540kg) C4 grown heifers jumped 28¢, averaging 320¢/kg
At the close of Tuesday’s markets:
- The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) settled at 567.25¢, up 4.00¢/kg cwt on where it finished the previous day
- Trade steers averaged 317¢, back 2¢/kg lwt
- Feeder steers averaged 316¢, up 1¢/kg lwt
- Medium steers averaged 316¢, up 16¢/kg lwt
- Heavy steers averaged 305¢/kg lwt, steady
- Medium cows averaged 237¢, up 1/kg lwt
