WA weekly sheep summary

Lambs

WA lamb supply, at MLA reported saleyards, lifted 24% week-on-week, to 12,000 head. Warmer conditions and more young lambs at Muchea attributed to the rise.

  • Katanning supply was unchanged, at 5,000 head
  • Muchea throughput was 51% higher, at 7,000 head

Light weight 2 score young lambs to slaughter were 24¢ lower, averaging 504¢/kg cwt. Trade weight (18-20kg) 3 score young lambs to slaughter eased, to average 486¢, while the 20-22kg lines decreased 6¢, to settle on 530¢/kg cwt.

Mutton

Mutton supply lifted 29%, to 12,399 head. Strong competition for wethers at Muchea kept prices strong.

  • Katanning supplies eased 3%, to 4,973 head
  • Muchea yarded 65% more sheep, at 7,426 head

Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes slipped 11¢, to 290¢, while heavy weight 3 score Merino ewes decreased 14¢, to 301¢/kg cwt

Young light weight 2 score wethers to feed lifted 33¢, to average 475¢, while medium weight lines to live export gained 20¢, to settle on 469¢/kg cwt.
