WA weekly cattle summary

Supply rises

WA cattle supply lifted this week with 3,843 head yarded. Pastoral cattle dominated Muchea’s yarding, while quality diminished at Boyanup.

  • Boyanup yarded 335 head
  • Mount Barker supply eased to 658 head
  • Supplies at Muchea increased to 2,850 head

Young cattle prices ease

Medium weight C2 yearling steers to feed were 8¢ lower on 324¢, while heavy weight C2 lines to feed eased 6¢ to average 317¢/kg. Light weight D2 pastoral yearling heifers decreased 12¢ to 208¢, while medium weight lines slipped 6¢ to average 212¢/kg.

The Western Young Cattle Indicator (WYCI) was 13¢ higher week-on-week at 579.25¢/kg cwt.

Heavy weight D3 pastoral grown steers lifted 1¢ to average 249¢/kg. Medium weight D3 pastoral grown heifers slipped 4¢ to average 226¢/kg.

Medium weight D2 pastoral cows gained 3¢ to settle on 206¢, while heavy weight D3 cows to slaughter decreased 12¢ to average 209¢/kg.

Light weight C1 pastoral bulls lifted 11¢ to 283¢, while D1 lines gained 3¢ to 225¢/kg.
