WA weekly cattle summary

Yardings lift
Moderate rainfall is continuing across most of the WA agricultural area this week.
- Muchea cattle numbers remained steady at around 2,000 head, with increased pastoral heifer and cow supplies.
- Boyanup supplies increased to 300 head
- Mt Barker saw 477 head consigned
Quality remained mixed at all sales with pastoral quality continuing to decline with many very plain drafts offered. Better pastoral drafts are being moved direct to markets with the majority to Muchea being secondary and reject lines.
Trade young cattle numbers were again limited. Competition on feeder cattle continued at strong levels with strong feeder and live export activity across all young categories.
Pastoral cattle dearer
Medium weight C2 yearling steers to feed were 4 cheaper on 323¢/kg. Heavy weight C3 yearling steers to feed were 40¢ dearer on 333¢/kg. Light weight D2 yearling pastoral heifers gained 30¢ to average 206¢/kg.
There were limited heavy grown steers and bullocks yarded. Light weight D2 pastoral steers lifted 12¢ to settle on 218¢/kg. Light weight D2 pastoral cows gained 12¢ to 165¢, while medium weight D3 pastoral lines were 7¢ higher on 211¢/kg.
