WA weekly cattle summary

Supply eases
WA cattle supply totalled 3,713 head this week, down 3%.
- Supply at Boyanup eased 11%, to 298 head
- Throughput at Mt Barker was 33% higher on 878 head
- Supply at Muchea eased 11%, to 2,537 head.
Large numbers of pastoral cattle continue to be consigned at Muchea, affecting the overall quality of the yarding. Competition was strong at Mt Barker, due to the quality of the cattle, and all buyers operated.
Young cattle prices lower
Medium weight C2 yearling steers to feed were 16¢ cheaper on 301¢, while heavy weight lines to feed gained 12¢ to average 310¢/kg. Medium weight C3 yearling heifers to feed lifted 1¢ to average 282¢/kg.
The Western Young Cattle Indicator (WYCI) finished 25.5¢ lower on 553.75¢/kg cwt.
Heavy weight C3 pastoral grown steers were 21¢ dearer on 283¢, while medium weight C3 grown heifers to feed lifted 6¢, to average 280¢/kg.
Light weight D2 pastoral cows eased 21¢ to 165¢, while medium weight D3’s edged 1¢ lower on 213¢/kg. Heavy weight D3 cows to slaughter lifted 6¢ to average 215¢/kg.
