Cattle offerings lift
Cattle throughput across the state was 6% higher week-on-week, for a total of 12,627 head, driven by larger numbers at the major selling centres. Consignments at NVLX Barnawartha increased 37%, to 3,599 head, while Leongatha penned 12% more cattle, at 2,415 head. Numbers at Shepparton remained similar to last week’s level, at 2,200 head, while Camperdown was up 46%, at 838 head.
Meanwhile, throughput at Pakenham was 26% lower, at 1,307 head, while Bairnsdale and Warrnambool declined 4% and 16%, respectively, at 844 head and 664 head. Ballarat and Colac yarded 16% and 27% fewer cattle, respectively, at 424 head and 336 head.
Yearling prices rise
Medium weight C3 yearling steers to slaughter lifted 3¢, averaging 305¢, while the C2 portion to feeder buyers increased 4¢, to 280¢/kg. Heavy C3 yearling steers to processors were up 7¢, averaging 308¢, while C2 lines to feed slipped 7¢, to 292¢/kg. Medium D2 yearling heifers to feeders averaged 267¢, up 34¢, while the heavy weight C3 portion to slaughter gained 2¢, to 294¢/kg.
Medium C3 grown steers to processors fell 2¢, averaging 292¢, while heavy lines to the same orders averaged 310¢, back 1¢/kg. D3 bullocks increased 8¢, averaging 315¢/kg, while medium D3 manufacturing steers averaged 3¢ dearer, at 286¢/kg.
Medium D2 cows to slaughter lifted 6¢, on 219¢, while the E1 dairy portion was up 8¢, averaging 156¢/kg. Heavy D3 cows to processor orders gained 3¢, averaging 238¢/kg.
