Cattle supply lifts marginally   

Numbers increased by 6% to 11,693 head week-on-week.

  • Ballarat and Colac numbers near halved to 243 head and 285 head, respectively
  • Supply at Bairnsdale eased by 1%, to 600 head
  • Leongatha consigned 1,800 head, down 10%
  • Numbers at Camperdown lifted 7%, to 1,234 head
  • NVLX yarded 2,820 head, back 51%
  • Pakenham and Warrnambool offered 1,177 head and 1,234 head, down 10% and up 29%, respectively
  • Shepparton throughput lifted by 10%, to 2,300 head

Cattle prices ease

Medium weight C2 vealer steers were up 9¢ and averaged 312¢ while heavy C3’s to slaughter were 3¢ dearer on 312¢/kg. Heavy weight C3 vealer heifers were 4¢ dearer on 336.3¢/kg.

Feeders purchased C2 medium weight yearling steers for an average of 315.7¢, up 3¢ and heavy weights to slaughter eased 7¢ to 335¢/kg.

Medium weight C3 yearling heifers to processors eased 9¢ to 325.1¢/kg. Most C3 heavy weights returned 332.6¢, back 7¢, while D3’s made 306.6¢, back 14¢/kg.

Medium weight grown steers to slaughter reached 363.2¢ and eased 8¢ to average 336.5¢/kg. Most D3 heavy grown heifers returned an average of 297.9¢ to be 16¢ cheaper and manufacturing steers in the light weight D category slipped 41¢ to 238.4¢/kg.

Heavy D1 dairy cows were 22¢ cheaper, averaging 226.5¢, while D4 beef breeds to slaughter returned 278.4¢, back 7¢/kg.
