Cattle throughput surges

Cattle supply increased to 12,066 head, representing a jump of 10% week-on-week.

• Shepparton numbers were down 5% on 2,100 head
• Leongatha  figures were up 7%, with 1,887 head
• NVLX Barnawartha consignments increased 6%, to 2,800 head
• Supply at Warrnambool lifted by 38%% to 1,100 head
• Bairnsdale throughput jumped 25% to 800 head
• Ballarat and Camperdown were back 16% and 10%, to 364 head and 872 head, respectively
• Numbers at Colac were up 15%, totalling 442 head
• Pakenham throughput increased by 20% to 1,701 head

Cattle prices lift

C3 medium weight vealer steers to slaughter were 4¢ dearer, averaging 310.6¢/kg. Heavy weight C2’s to feed reached 317.2¢ and averaged 303.6¢/kg.

Medium weight C2 vealer heifers to processors gained 3¢ to sell for 294¢, while heavy weights were 5¢ dearer on 308.4¢/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feeders were 8¢ dearer, averaging 298.7¢, while heavy weight C3’s returned 309.4¢, up 19¢/kg. Heavy weights to slaughter held steady on 317.1¢/kg.

Yearling heifers in the medium weight category reached 337.2¢ and averaged 306¢, up 5¢/kg. Those in the heavy weight category to slaughter returned 307.5¢ for C3’s and 292¢ for D3’s, up 7¢ and 2¢/kg, respectively.

Heavy weight C3 grown steers averaged 315.7¢, up 2¢, while their grown heifer counterparts gained 6¢ to average 204.8¢/kg.

Cows to processors made 226.7¢ for medium weights and 253.5¢ for heavy weights to be 9¢ and 7¢/kg dearer, respectively. Dairy cows reached 236¢ and averaged 209¢ to be 2¢/kg dearer.
