Yardings lift
Throughput at MLA reported saleyards in Victoria lifted 25% week-on-week, to 9,854 head, with all major centres recording an increase.
- NVLX Wodonga increased 56%, to 2,470 head
- Shepparton was up 30% week-on-week, at 1,950 head
- Leongatha increased 38%, to 1,590 head
- Camperdown and Warrnambool lifted 6% and 20% respectively, to 970 head and 890 head
- Pakenham yarded just 819 head across both sales, back 26% week-on-week
- Bairnsdale yarded 455 head while Colac and Ballarat recorded 375 head and 335 head, respectively
Heavy cows dearer
Young cattle sold to a mixed trend, with steers dearer but the heifers mostly easier on last week’s prices. Heavy C2 vealer steers to the trade improved 2¢, averaging 329¢, while the C3 female lines to the same orders increased 8¢, averaging 325¢ and selling to a top of 348¢/kg.
Medium C2 yearling feeder steers lifted 16¢, averaging 333¢ and selling to 348¢, while the heavier lines improved 7¢, averaging 329¢/kg. Heavy C3 yearling trade steers were firm, at 329¢/kg.
Medium C3 yearling heifers to the trade eased 2¢, averaging 321¢, while the same condition heavier lines declined 5¢, averaging 321¢ and selling to 349¢/kg.
Heavy C3 grown steers to slaughter improved 2¢, averaging 318¢, while C4 bullocks eased 8¢, averaging 315¢/kg. Light (0-540kg) C3 grown heifers eased 6¢, averaging 287¢, while the 540kg and above D2 manufacturing dairy steers lifted 12¢, averaging 275¢/kg.
Light E1 dairy cows were steady, at 155¢, while the medium D1 dairy cows lifted 36¢ week-on-week, averaging 216¢/kg. Heavy D1 dairy cows improved 10¢, averaging 223¢, while the heavy D4 beef cows gained 2¢, averaging 265¢ and selling to 285¢/kg.
