Cattle supply declines
Cattle numbers reduced 16% week-on-week, to 9,998 head. Bairnsdale and Camperdown increased by 34% and 30%, to yard 986 head and 693 head, respectively, while Colac lifted 23%, to 495 head. Pakenham halved in size, to 1,127 head, and consignments at Ballarat eased 31%, to 516 head. Warrnambool offered 606 head, back 26%, and supply at Shepparton declined by 10%, to 1,800 head. NVLX Barnawartha yarded 2,035 head, back 17%, while throughput at Leongatha eased 8%, to offer 1,740 head.
Cattle prices lift
Heavy C2 vealer steers to feeders were 3¢ dearer, at 277¢, while C3 lines to slaughter gained 7¢, to average 296¢/kg. Medium weight C2 vealer heifers to slaughter averaged 254¢, up 27¢, while heavy weights gained 16¢, to return 297¢/kg.
Light weight yearling steers to restockers lifted 35¢, to 276¢, medium weights to feeders gained 15¢, to average 287¢, and heavy weight C3 lines to slaughter climbed up 20¢, to return 308¢/kg. Medium weight C3 yearling heifers to slaughter lifted 17¢, to 289¢, while D3 lines were 7¢ dearer, on 269¢/kg. Heavy weights to slaughter were also dearer; C3’s gained 4¢, to 282¢, and D3’s gained 12¢, to 279¢/kg.
Heavy C3 grown steers to processors were 9¢ dearer, reaching 330¢ and averaging 306¢, while D3 bullocks gained 17¢, to average 308¢/kg. Medium D3 grown heifers to slaughter averaged 262¢, up 17¢/kg. Heavy weight D1 dairy cows returned 189¢, up 18¢, while D4 beef breeds to slaughter were up 25¢, at 237¢/kg.
