Yardings firm
Numbers across the state fluctuated marginally through the smaller selling centres reported by MLA’s NLRS, however overall throughput was relatively steady week-on-week, to total 9,335 head.
- Pakenham yarded 1,000 head, unchanged on last week
- Shepparton totalled 2,000, unchanged on last week
- Warrnambool totalled 1,142, back marginally by 50 head.
- Leongatha yarded 8% more cattle totalling 1,399 head
- NVLX lifted 9% totalling 1,830 head.
- Bairnsdale, Colac and Camperdown were relatively unchanged, yarding 559, 277 and 807 head, respectively.
Prices mostly dearer
Vealer steers were limited in number this week, although prices trended downward for light weight lines, however the better quality heavy weights lifted 6¢ to average 326¢, while the 3 scores improved by a further 11¢ week-on-week averaging 332¢/kg.
Vealer heifers suitable for processing eased 8¢ for C2 lines averaging 305¢, while C3 heavy weights sold similar to last week, ranging from 313¢ to 346¢/kg.
The 300kg to 400kg yearling steers to feed sold from 252¢ to 339¢, back 12¢/kg on last week. Heavy C3’s to process sold steady averaging 330¢, with prices ranging from 280¢ to 246¢/kg.
Medium weight yearling heifers generally sold 10¢ dearer to processors with C3 lines ranging from 292¢ to 341¢, while heavy C3’s topped at 339¢, to average 323¢/kg.
The 500kg to 600kg C3 grown steers sold steady week-on-week ranging from 274¢ to 346¢/kg.
Medium weight E1 dairy cows increased 6¢, averaging 177¢, while heavy D1 dairy lines eased 3¢ on last week to average 217¢/kg. The D3 and 4 score beef cows improved 4¢ to 5¢, averaging 258¢ and 277¢/kg, respectively.
