Tuesday daily sheep summary

Dubbo lamb consignments jumped 56% week-on-week to 20,715 head. The number of light lambs penned increased and it was a plainer quality yarding overall. Not all of the regular buyers were in attendance.

Sheep throughput lifted 46%, to 14,110 head, and most grades in the mixed quality offering sold to a cheaper trend.

  • Light weight 2 score young lambs to restockers fell 15¢ on 516¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 3 score young lambs eased 2¢ on 520¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 3 score old season lambs were back 54¢ and averaged 529¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 4 score old season lambs slipped 52¢ on 553¢/kg cwt
  • Extra heavy weight 4 score old season lambs declined 23¢ on 553¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 4 score Merino ewes were 13¢ lower on 316¢/kg cwt

Lamb supply at Bendigo was 39% higher, at 22,090 head, and heavy lambs were in short supply, with export processor demand also subdued. There was keen restocker activity for store lambs.

Sheep numbers jumped 38%, to 11,808 head, and consisted mainly of ewes. Not all of the regular export orders operated.

  • Light weight 2 score young lambs to restockers decreased 30¢ on 527¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 3 score young lambs were 26¢ lower and averaged 475¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 2 score old lambs lifted 3¢ on 516¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 3 score old lambs lost 15¢ on 531¢/kg cwt
  • Extra heavy weight 3 score old lambs averaged 536¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes were steady, on 318¢/kg cwt

At the close of Monday’s markets:                                                                                          

  • The eastern states restocker lamb indicator eased 7¢ on 535¢/kg cwt
  • Merino lambs dropped 23¢ on 450¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs were down 5¢ on 500¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs eased 3¢ on 521¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs fell 3¢ on 530¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator finished on 315¢, down 4¢/kg cwt
