Tuesday daily sheep summary

Lamb consignments at Dubbo lifted 4% week-on-week, to 20,115 head, with a large proportion of light weights penned, along with good numbers of heavy weight lambs. Trade weight lambs were in limited supply. Light weight 2 score lambs were up 34¢ on 577¢, while 3 score trade weight lambs slipped 16¢ and averaged 590¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 4 score lambs declined 14¢ on 588¢, while extra heavy 4 score lambs lifted 2¢ and averaged 594¢/kg cwt. Sheep throughput was 20% higher, at 5,245 head, and there was a good supply of well-finished sheep on offer, with most grades selling to a dearer trend. Medium weight 4 score Merino ewes gained 49¢ and averaged 450¢/kg cwt.

At Bendigo, lamb offerings were down 5%, at 9,664 head, and there was a noticeable decline in quality. Secondary lambs lacking finish made up a large proportion of the yarding. Light weight 2 score Merino lambs slipped 4¢ on 562¢, while 2 score trade weight lambs were back 5¢ and averaged 568¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 3 score lambs increased 13¢ on 621¢, while extra heavy 3 score lambs lifted 19¢ and averaged 621¢/kg cwt. Sheep throughput fell 33%, to 4,006 head, and competition was not as strong, as not all of the regular buyers operated. Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes were 14¢ higher and averaged 422¢/kg cwt.

At the close of Monday’s markets, the eastern states restocker lamb indicator was up 9¢ on 567¢/kg cwt. Merino lambs and light lambs eased 2¢, on 551¢ and 572¢/kg cwt, respectively. Trade lambs were 3¢ higher on 602¢, while heavy lambs gained 1¢ on 600¢/kg cwt. The mutton indicator was 2¢ dearer and finished on 406¢/kg cwt.
