Tuesday daily sheep summary

Lamb consignments at Dubbo lifted 28% week-on-week, to 25,830 head, and there was a good selection of trade and heavy weight lambs on offer. Light weight 3 score Merino lambs were 43¢ dearer on 532¢, while 3 score trade weight lambs slipped 7¢ on 583¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 4 score lambs declined 8¢ on 580¢, while extra heavy 4 score lambs lifted 1¢ and averaged 595¢/kg cwt. Sheep throughput was 23% higher, at 6,475 head, and it was a plainer quality offering overall. Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes were back 10¢ and averaged 378¢/kg cwt.

Lamb numbers at Bendigo increased 4%, to 10,019 head, and lamb quality remained very plain. Not all of the regular buyers operated. Light weight 2 score Merino lambs slipped 44¢ on 540¢, while 3 score trade weight lambs were 30¢ cheaper and averaged 598¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 3 score lambs were up 6¢ on 624¢, while extra heavy 3 score lambs to restockers averaged 611¢/kg cwt. Sheep consignments were 46% higher, at 5,846 head, and all weights and grades were offered. Not all export buyers were present, while restockers were selective in their purchases. Heavy weight 3 score crossbred ewes declined 24¢ and averaged 367¢/kg cwt.

At the close of Monday’s markets, the eastern states restocker lamb indicator fell 12¢ on 535¢/kg cwt. Merino lambs eased 1¢ on 542¢, while light lambs were back 2¢ on 562¢/kg cwt. Trade lambs decreased 6¢ on 591¢, while heavy lambs slipped 4¢ on 599¢/kg cwt. The mutton indicator finished 2¢ lower on 396¢/kg cwt.
