Consignments to Toowoomba Elders declined 42%, to 490 head. A full panel of buyers operated in a dearer young and grown cattle market. Medium weight D2 yearling steers to restockers and heifers to feeder buyers improved 7¢, averaging 230¢ and 206¢/kg, respectively. Medium D3 cows averaged 199¢, up 7¢/kg week-on-week.
Throughput at TRLX Tamworth declined 19%, to 980 head, and young cattle quality continued to be mixed. Restockers were active on the good supply of vealers while the several pens of 3 score young cattle were acquired by the trade. On average, EYCI eligible cattle lifted almost 30¢/kg week-on-week, at 532.59¢/kg cwt. Light (200-280kg) restocker vealer steers jumped 21¢, averaging 296¢, while the female line gained 23¢, averaging 271¢/kg. The cow market was also dearer, with medium D2 lines improving 14¢, to average 185¢/kg.
Throughput at Wagga climbed 16%, to 4,350 head, after last week’s rain reduced yarding. Quality was mixed, with a large portion of yearlings in secondary condition, but there were increased numbers of supplementary fed trade steers and heifers. Grown steer and bullock numbers also lifted. Additional feedlot buyers and northern restockers joined the usual panel of buyers in what was, again, a dearer market. Medium C2 yearling steers to feeder buyers improved 11¢, averaging 311¢, while heavy lines gained 15¢, averaging 313¢/kg. Medium C2 yearling feeder heifers improved 5¢, averaging 288¢, while heavy C3 lines to the trade gained 6¢, averaging 290¢/kg lwt or 537¢/kg cwt. Heavy C3 grown steers to slaughter increased 9¢, averaging 314¢, while heavy D4 cows jumped 15¢, averaging 236¢/kg.
At the close of Monday’s markets, the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) finished at 520.00¢, up 7.00¢/kg cwt on where it finished last week and the highest value on record. Trade steers improved 2¢, to 306¢, and feeder steers gained 4¢, to 290¢/kg lwt. Medium steers slipped 10¢, to 280¢, while heavy steers improved 5¢, to close at 288¢/kg lwt. Medium cows averaged 202¢, up 4¢/kg lwt.
